Cattle Studs abound throughout the world. Many measure the performance of their cattle by weight gains, fat and muscle scans. These are very important criteria which must be used in conjunction with conformation and structure.
Apart from the above there is a need to promote the breed. Shows are an integral part of promotions as well as allowing the stud owner to visually compare his stock against that of the other competitors.
Before retiring from the show circuit Cruachan Highland Cattle took part in major shows from 1991 to 1998 . Wins included winning both male and female champions at Adelaide Royal and Melbourne Royal two years in a row (1996 & 1997).
The highlight for Cruachan Highland Cattle was to make Australian History with the first Highland Bull to be awarded an Interbreed Champion at a Royal Show in Australia. Tearlach of Cruachan was awarded Interbreed Champion Bull ‘C’ group beef breeds at the Royal Melbourne Show 1998.
It is an achievement to be proud of, and one which my children share in. All the show animals were prepared and shown by my children ... Ross, Shannyn, Kimberly & Catriona.
They deserve the credit for all their hard work. Without their support we may never have achieved such consistent placings during our years of showing.
